Dr. iur. Jiří Němec , LL.M.
Experience, Legal Specialization: Jiří Němec specializes in M&A, cross border transactions and all aspects of Corporate Law. Dr. Němec further advises on Czech and European Competition Law, including merger control, state aid and public procurement. He regularly handles merger clearance applications with the Czech and Russian Anti-Monopoly Offices as well as other competition aspects of acquisitions, disposals and joint ventures in a wide range of industries, including insurance, energy, paper, machinery and transport. In addition, Jiří has in - depth experience in the field of Energy Law and is responsible for the Energy department at BBH.
Dr. Němec studied law at the Charles University in Prague achieving his Mgr. in 1992 and at the University Hamburg, Germany achieving his LL.M in 1993 and his doctorate in 1996. His doctoral thesis about privatization and foreign direct investment in the Czech Republic was completed at the Max – Planck – Institute for international and foreign private law in Hamburg, Germany. Jiří Němec worked for international law firms in Munich and Prague before joining Brzobohatý Brož Honsa in 2001. Dr. Němec became Partner of the firm in 2004 and, since 2006, in 2006-2008 he was General Director and Managing Partner of BBH Legal LLC, the Russian branch of BBH in Moscow.
Dr. Němec is also the author of many publications on Corporate and Competition Law in the Czech Republic and its harmonization with European Law. Jiří was among the authors of the so-called Agenda 2003 at the Euro Czech Forum, a joint institution of the Chambers of Industry and Commerce of Britain, France, Germany, the Netherlands and Sweden (www.ecf.cz).In 2007 Jiří lectured at a business breakfast discussion entitled Business in Russia. The theme was Legislative and legal continuity in connection with entry into the Russian market. Dr. Jiří Němec is also a Member of the Expert team of the Czech Bar specializing in European Law and he occasionally lectures on topics in Competition and European Law.
